Golan Haji

Golan Haji è nato ad ʿĀmūdā, una cittadina curda nel nord della Siria, e ha studiato medicina all’Università di Damasco. E’ patologo di formazione, ma ha una presenza letteraria, diverse le raccolte di poesie: Nādafī’l-ẓulumāt (Chiamo nelle tenebre, 2004) ha ottenuto il premio “Muḥammad al-Maghūṭ”; Thammata man yaraka wahshan (C’è qualcuno che ti vede come un mostro) è apparsa nel 2008 in occasione dell’evento internazionale “Damasco città della cultura”; Baytī al-bārid al-baʿīd (La mia casa fredda e lontana) Beirut, 2012, da Dār al-Ğamal; Adulterers, a Copenhaghen da Forlaget, Korridor, 2011. Nel dominio dell’arte ricordiamo il testo principale dell’esposizione Ce que raconte la solitude alla Friche Belle de Mai di Marsiglia (30/8- 21/12 2014) e una sua tela alla Biennale di Venezia 2015 nell’esposizione collettiva Imago mundi. Nel 2016 in corso di pubblicazione: Fino alla guerra (libro non-fiction basato su interviste a donne siriane fra 2011-2013, per i tipi di Riad El-Rayyes Books a Beirut e la traduzione in arabo di A reader on reading di Alberto Manguel, presso Alsaqi Books a Beirut. La raccolta poetica Meezan Al’atha (Pesa delle lesioni), in arabo, sarà pubblicata presso Almutawwassit a Milano.

Golan Haji is a Syrian poet and translator with a postgraduate degree in pathology. He was born in 1977 in Amouda, a Kurdish town in northern Syria. He studied medicine at the University of Damascus. He has worked as a translator from English and has translated Robert Louis Stevenson’s Scottish classic The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde into Arabic. His collection of poetry in Arabic, Nādafī’l-ẓulumāt Called in Darkness (2004), won the Al-Maghut prize in poetry and Thammata man yaraka wahshan Someone Sees You as a Monster (2008), was published during the event celebrating Damascus as the Capital of culture in 2008. Baytī al-bārid al-baʿīd My Cold Faraway Home, was published in Beirut, 2012, by Dār al-Ğamal, Adulterers, in Copenhaghen by Forlaget, Korridor, 2011. He lived in Damascus until he had to flee his country and settled in France. In the art domain he wrote the main text for the exposition Ce que raconte la solitude in Friche Belle de Mai in Marseilles (30/8- 21/12 2014) and his canvas was exhibited at the Biennale di Venezia 2015 in the collective exposition Imago mundi. In the course of publication in 2016: Until the war (nonfiction book based on interviews with Syrian women between 2011-2013), published by Riad El-Rayyes Books in Beirut, the translation in Arabic of “A reader on reading” by Alberto Manguel, Alsaqi Books in Beirut and his latest collection Meezan Al’atha Scale of injuries in Arabic by Almutawwassit in Milan.
