Khaled Al Khamissi

Kha­led al-Kha­mis­si (b.November 1962),  is an Egyp­tian  wri­ter, direc­tor and pro­du­cer. He was born in  and has a Master’s Degree in Poli­ti­cal Scien­ce from Sor­bon­ne Uni­ver­si­ty in Paris. He had a wee­kly column in the Al Ahram New­spa­per from 1986 until 1990.

Taxi, his fir­st novel, is a col­lec­tion of fic­tio­nal mono­lo­gues, based on Khamissi’s actual con­ver­sa­tions with the city’s taxi dri­vers whi­le tra­vel­ling around Cai­ro. It has been a bestsel­ler in Egypt and the Arab world sin­ce its publi­ca­tion in Janua­ry 2007. In 2008, Taxi was trans­la­ted into English and Ita­lian. Edi­tions are for­th­co­ming in Spa­nish, Greek and French. Kha­mis­si is also a pro­du­cer, film direc­tor and jour­na­li­st who con­tri­bu­tes wee­kly arti­cles to nume­rous Egyp­tian newspapers.
