Khaled al-Khamissi (b.November 1962), is an Egyptian writer, director and producer. He was born in and has a Master’s Degree in Political Science from Sorbonne University in Paris. He had a weekly column in the Al Ahram Newspaper from 1986 until 1990.
Taxi, his first novel, is a collection of fictional monologues, based on Khamissi’s actual conversations with the city’s taxi drivers while travelling around Cairo. It has been a bestseller in Egypt and the Arab world since its publication in January 2007. In 2008, Taxi was translated into English and Italian. Editions are forthcoming in Spanish, Greek and French. Khamissi is also a producer, film director and journalist who contributes weekly articles to numerous Egyptian newspapers.
